A CT scanner is an essential tool in the radiation therapy planning process, used to create detailed images of internal organs and tumor locations so that physicians, medical physicists, and the radiation therapy team can precisely define the treatment area.

CT scan images help the medical team assess the location, size, shape, and relationship of the tumor to adjacent vital organs, such as the lungs, heart, spinal cord, intestines, bladder, or other organs that must be protected during treatment.
