Ultrasound to Unclog Milk Duct

Blocked milk ducts are a common problem in postpartum mothers. It occurs when milk thickens and becomes blocked in the milk ducts, causing a blockage.

Blocked milk ducts

Symptoms of breast engorgement include enlarged breasts, breast pain, tenderness to the touch, swelling and redness, possible fever, soreness extending to the nipple, and the presence of hard lumps in the breast, which can result in difficulty or slow milk flow.

Causes of blocked milk ducts

  • Not breastfeeding often enough or breastfeeding infrequently can cause milk to remain in the breasts, resulting in incomplete expression.
  • Pumping breast milk frequently during the day and then sleeping soundly at night without waking up to breastfeed or pump.
  • Milk duct compression can occur, possibly due to wearing a bra that's too tight or has hard edges, sleeping on your side for extended periods, etc.
  • Breasts that are too large and saggy can hinder milk drainage.
  • Eating foods that are too sweet, fatty, starchy, or contain excessive amounts of sugar.

Treatment for blocked milk ducts
The most effective treatment is deep heat therapy using ultrasound to open the milk ducts. This involves using ultrasound waves at the cellular level, causing vibrations that generate deep heat, leading to vasodilation and improved blood circulation. In cases of milk duct blockage, ultrasound can help dissolve the blockage more easily.

Breast milk duct massage

Breast massage to open milk ducts involves massaging along the milk ducts using special techniques to open the milk ducts and facilitate milk flow. Applying warm compresses to the breasts causes blood vessels in the breast area to dilate, increasing milk flow.

Preventing blocked milk ducts
  • Early suckling: Start breastfeeding your baby as early as the first few days after birth.
  • Good suckling: Make sure your baby is latching well and the milk is flowing properly.
  • Lots of suckling: Let your baby suckle without restriction.
